Internal variables and phenomenological models for metals plasticity
نویسنده
چکیده
2014 This paper aims towards a presentation of the general structure of the phenomenological models presently used for the macroscopic description of metal plasticity and a discussion of their interaction with microstructural investigation. Attention is concentrated on internal variables modelization which, from the very beginning, must include some ideas about the microstructural material state. After a presentation of the basic mechanical and thermodynamical framework, the classical models will be described through the usual internal variables, the associated thermodynamic forces and the microstructural features they are supposed to take into account. Some approaches will then be presented to give a deeper microstructural content to these models. A distinction will be made between micromechanical approaches and qualitative use of microstructural informations. This methodological discussion will be illustrated by some recent works and models, and concluded by some examples showing the necessity to combine these two approaches. The concept of internal stress will also be discussed. As a conclusion the need for an increasing interaction between the mechanics and physics of materials will be advocated. Revue Phys. Phenomenological modeling of anisotropy induced by evolution of the dislocation structure on the macroscopic and microscopic scale
This work focuses on the modeling of the evolution of anisotropy induced by the development of the dislocation microstructure. A model formulated at the engineering scale in the context of classical metal plasticity and a model formulated in the context of crystal plasticity are presented. Images obtained by transmission-electron microscopy (TEM) show the influence of the strain path on the evo...
متن کاملFinite element analysis of geometrically necessary dislocations in crystal plasticity
We present a finite element method for the analysis of ductile crystals whose energy depends on the density of geometrically necessary dislocations (GNDs). We specifically focus on models in which the energy of the GNDs is assumed to be proportional to the total variation of the slip strains. In particular, the GND energy is homogeneous of degree one in the slip strains. Such models indeed aris...
متن کاملDAMAGE AND PLASTICITY CONSTANTS OF CONVENTIONAL AND HIGH-STRENGTH CONCRETE PART II: STATISTICAL EQUATION DEVELOPMENT USING GENETIC PROGRAMMING
Several researchers have proved that the constitutive models of concrete based on combination of continuum damage and plasticity theories are able to reproduce the major aspects of concrete behavior. A problem of such damage-plasticity models is associated with the material constants which are needed to be determined before using the model. These constants are in fact the connectors of constitu...
متن کاملWhat is the appropriate description level for synaptic plasticity?
T he hypothesis that learning memory and some aspects of development are mechanistically implemented by synaptic plasticity has gained significant experimental support (1, 2). At the cellular and molecular level synaptic plasticity is a very complex phenomenon, involving hundreds of molecular species, depending on the structure of dendrites and on ion channel concentrations. If we are to unders...
متن کاملDetermining Material Parameters for Critical State Plasticity Models Based on Multilevel Extended Digital Database
This work presents a new staggered multilevel material identification procedure for phenomenological critical state plasticity models. The emphasis is placed on cases in which available experimental data and constraints are insufficient for calibration. The key idea is to create a secondary virtual experimental database from high-fidelity models, such as discrete element simulations, then merge...
